Why Choose LVP & LVT Flooring
for Your Portland Home?
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) have become the go-to flooring choice for Portland and Vancouver homeowners who want the look of hardwood or stone without the maintenance headaches. Modern LVP flooring is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and comes in hundreds of styles — from realistic wood grain to natural stone textures.
At ZB Builders, we've installed LVP and LVT in hundreds of homes across the Portland-Vancouver metro area. We know what works in our climate, how to prep subfloors correctly, and how to install luxury vinyl so it lasts 20+ years.
100% Waterproof
Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and laundry rooms. LVP won't warp or buckle from water exposure like hardwood or laminate.
Scratch Resistant
Durable wear layer protects against scratches from pets, furniture, and daily traffic. Ideal for busy households.
Realistic Designs
Modern LVP mimics hardwood, stone, and tile so convincingly that most people can't tell the difference from 3 feet away.
Affordable
Get the look of high-end hardwood or natural stone at a fraction of the cost. Lower material and installation costs.
Easy Maintenance
Simple cleaning with a damp mop. No refinishing, sealing, or special treatments required. Perfect for busy families.
Fast Installation
Most LVP projects completed in 1-3 days. Minimal disruption to your home and daily routine.
What Is LVP & LVT Flooring?
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) is a multi-layer flooring product designed to look like hardwood. Each plank has a photographic layer that mimics wood grain, protected by a tough wear layer on top. LVP planks typically come in 6-9 inch widths and click together for floating installation.
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is the same product but shaped like tiles instead of planks — perfect for creating stone, marble, or ceramic looks. Both LVP and LVT are 100% waterproof and significantly more durable than traditional vinyl sheet flooring.
Key differences from laminate: LVP is waterproof (laminate is not). LVP is more flexible and quieter underfoot. LVP handles moisture better in Portland's climate.
Why Professional
Installation Matters
LVP flooring is often marketed as "DIY-friendly" because of click-lock systems. But professional installation makes the difference between a floor that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 25 years.
What we do that DIY installations skip:
Subfloor moisture testing and moisture barrier installation when needed
Complete subfloor leveling — even small dips cause planks to flex and separate
Proper acclimation time (48 hours minimum in the room where it will be installed)
Precision cutting around doorways, cabinets, and irregular walls
Correct expansion gaps to prevent buckling in Portland's humidity changes
Quality underlayment selection for sound dampening and comfort
We've repaired dozens of failed DIY LVP installations. The most common issues: buckled planks from skipped expansion gaps, squeaking from uneven subfloors, and separation at seams from improper locking.
Our LVP & LVT
Installation Process
01
Subfloor Assessment
We inspect your subfloor for moisture, structural damage, and levelness. Any issues are identified and corrected before installation begins.
02
Preparation
Old flooring removal (if needed), subfloor repairs, leveling compound application, and moisture barrier installation where required.
03
Acclimation
LVP material acclimates in your home for 48+ hours to match temperature and humidity. This prevents expansion/contraction issues later.
04
Installation
Precision cutting, proper expansion gaps, perfect seams, and clean transitions. We work efficiently while maintaining quality at every step.
